Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are a larger ant in the ant species.  They measure about 1/4"- 1" in size and live in many parts of the United States.  If you have Carpenter ants invading your home, chances are they will be the Black Carpenter Ant.  Carpenter ants love to use dead, damp wood to build their nests.  This makes it easy for them to hollow out the wood.  Carpenter Ants unlike termites do not eat the wood,  they simple discard it and use the hollowed out areas for nesting grounds.

Carpenter ants are very active in the late hours (10 p.m. untill about 4-5 a.m.) so to look for carpenter ants your insepction would need to be between those hours.  Carpenter ants leave behind saw dust like shavings called frass and this is a great indication to where the nest might be located in your home.  If you get Carpenter Ants in your home the first thing you should always do is make sure there isn't a current moisture problem whitin the home (roof leaks, leaky pipes, ect.) after any mouisture problem has been dealt with, then would be the time to treat for the carpenter ants and get rid of them!

There are a couple good ways to get rid of carpenter ants.  Some like to mix the two methods for a faster mortailty rate on the carpenter ants.  Just click the pictures
